While Monitoring
Core Knowledge:
- Make steady progress (complete 1 training every other shift) until you have worked through all of the available trainings.
- When others in the Makerspace have needs, prioritize their needs.
When someone arrives:
- Welcome them to the Makerspace
- Tell them your name
- Tell them that you’re the monitor and that you’re here to help
- Ask them their name
- Ask if they’ve signed the pledge
- If they haven’t, show them where it is and ask them to sign it
- Ask if they’ve completed any of the equipment trainings
- If they haven’t, invite them to start with the beginner friendly Vinyl Cutter or Laser Cutter trainings
- If they have, confirm that they have by going to the Training Log and searching for their name. I update this log as soon as I see evidence that the training was completed successfully.
When someone leaves:
- Thank them for coming.
- Ask if they have any questions.
- Invite them to come back soon.
When some asks to store their project in the Makerspace:
- Explain that we just don’t have the room to store projects.
When someone asks to skip the trainings:
- Politely explain that the trainings are required and that they can discuss the reasoning with me if they’d like to.
If someone gets a minor injury:
- Confirm that they are basically okay, and show them the band-aids in the First Aid kit above the sink (if applicable).
- Talk to them and assess the scenario.
- Let me know.
If anything serious happens, or begins to happen:
- Call for help:
- Call me.
- Call Public Safety.
- Call 911.
If something breaks:
- Mark the equipment as “out of order.”
- Let me know.
